At the heart of the Sorento’s internals is a 1.6L 4-cylinder GDI engine, paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission. That’s on every Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid trim, whereas the Hybrid Lithium Ion Polymer battery is 270V and 64kW, while the Plug-In Hybrid trims are at 360V and 88kW. The electric driving range of the Plug-In Hybrid will reach 51 km, more than enough to comfortably cruise through your next adventure. Fuel consumption on the Hybrid enjoys an excellent fuel economy of 6.4 / 7.0 (city/highway) (L/100 km), while the Plug-In Hybrid gets an incredible 2.8 / 3.2 (city/highway) (L/100 km). Power sees both the Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid at 258 lb-ft of torque, while the Hybrid reaches 227 horsepower, and the Plug-In Hybrid at 261.
Interior Passenger & Cargo Space
The big headline news may be that the Sorento is even more efficient now through its HEV & PHEV engine & battery internals, but make no mistake that this is still an SUV with all of its expected sport utility and family transit benefits. 6-passenger seating, complete with 2nd-row captain’s chairs equals comfort for all on-board, and more than enough space to stretch out in. Depending on the trim, either cloth, synthetic leather or leather seat material makes every ride as comfortable as the last. On the cargo management side of things, you’ll be loaded up with all you need, while staying efficient, with up to 1,274L of available space behind the 2nd row, and 357L of available space behind the 3rd row.
Advanced Technology & Safety
The HEV & PHEV engine tech isn’t the only way that this 2022 Sorento is vaulting into the future of vehicles. Alongside are many driving, connective and safety tech features that make piloting the Sorento not only more safe and convenient, but also just plain fun. Notably amongst these is the new Shift By Wire shifting dial, which gets rid of the outdated gear shifter and adds some cabin room by replacing it with an electronic shifter. A 10.25-inch multimedia interface, Bose premium sound system, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and wireless phone charging are all examples of advanced connective tech on the top-level Plug-In Hybrid trim that will keep you incredibly connected. Safety features highlighted by the Blind Spot Collision Avoidance Assist showcase the levels of driver assistance that the Sorento’s advanced systems provide on every drive.
